MEDIA RELEASE
Sunday 4th December 2011

A spectacular crowd of people flocked to the Catani Gardens in St Kilda this morning for the 26th annual Sussan Women’s Fun Run 2011, 5km and 10km events.

Even though the weather was a bit overcast, it never dampened the spirits of the record field of over 5,200 women as they gathered together to embark on this unique event, with media personality Sam Lane lifting their spirits in what is known as Australia’s Premier Women’s Only Fun Run.

SuperSprint Director, David Hansen said “This is exactly why the Sussan Women’s Fun Run is such a special event for SuperSprint. You only have to look around you and know why that is”. Over $84,000 was raised for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), the official event charity. Channel 9 was present at the event, reporting from the finish line.

A special mention must go to Diana Lang, after raising almost $4,000 as part of her ‘For Anita with Love’ cause. Diana was inspired to take part in the event and raise funds for breast cancer support in honor of her sister who endured countless medical procedures and is now looking towards a more positive future. The top fundraising team were ‘Cos we care’ after raising nearly $6300 for BCNA.

Presenter of the 10km awards was Maxine Morand, new CEO of BCNA along with inspirational breast cancer survivor and BCNA ambassador Raelene Boyle.  Raelene, winner of seven Commonwealth Games gold and three Olympic silver medals, said “I just love the atmosphere at this event and a big thank you to all our beautiful women with breast cancer for coming out”. Champion runner Lavinia Petrie who has been running in the Sussan Women's Fun Run for years won her age group yet again and is testament to her pretty incredible list of accolades that spans almost 5 decades.

A fantastic day of fun and camaraderie. A testament to why the Sussan Women’s Fun Run is a special event for one and all.
