Race 4 - Portarlington

Race Directors Report

As always the charming Bellarine Peninsula painted the perfect backdrop for Victoria’s longest running and most coveted triathlon – the Gatorade Portarlington Triathlon, Race 4 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series.

Now in its 23rd year, the Portarlington Triathlon has set the scene for big time racing in Victoria, attracting some of the sport’s most recognisable names over a remarkable journey including Stephen Foster, Chris Legh, Emma Carney, Tim Bently, Craig McKensie, Greg Stewart and Peter Robinson to name a few!

Scorching summer weather in the lead up to this years race didn’t deter close to 1,500 super fit triathletes from taking to the infamous beach-side course, covering an 800m swim, 26km cycle and 8km run for the Gatorade event and a 300m swim, 10km cycle and 3km run for the Brooks participants.

The Brooks Fun Tri led off proceedings with a typically Portarlington festive feel -competitors making the most of the perfect swimming conditions and cooler morning temperatures. The following Gatorade event then set the seen for another close and action-packed race with a strong elite contingent leading the way impressively! Brent Schuster and Jaimi Chisholm imposing themselves on their elite foes to win the Elite Male & Elite Female categories respectively.

Only two races now remain in what has been one of the most remarkable series in Gatorade Triathlon Series history! Series points will be hard to come by with a record field expected to turn out at the incredibly popular Elwood Beach on February 15th for race 5!

Thank you to all athletes, volunteers and Portarlington locals who help make this event the success it is! We look forward to seeing you in 2 weeks!
