Race 1 - St Kilda
Race Directors Report
Congratulations to all participants in Race 1 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series, incorporating the Brooks Fun Tri, for completing the course despite the challenging conditions.
After carefully monitoring the pre event rainfall, and in consultation with the EPA, it was determined that the likelihood of the water quality being unsafe for swimming, it was determined necessary to add an additional run leg place of the swim. The blustery weather ensured conditions were going to be cool - however the racing was anything but, with over 2,200 dedicated enthusiasts taking to St Kilda’s infamous Catani Gardens, to mark the start of the 19 year of Victoria’s Premier Triathlon Series!
Unfortunately the weather conditions precluded the use of the Public Address system and event signage to the usual SuperSprint standard however we look forward to restoring this at the next Elwood on Sunday 14th December.
With a first class line-up featuring the likes of 07/08 series winners Kristian McCartney and Madeleine Oldfield along with their elite counterparts Josh Rix, Leon Griffin, Tegan Smith, Meg Russell and company, the racing was always going to be tight!
Congratulations to a fast finishing Jamie Huggett who held off Leon Griffin for a narrow win in the Elite Male category and young gun Holly Aitken, an impressive winner in the Elite Female category!
As always the Age Group, teams, first timers and family and friends categories fought it out in style with plenty of impressive performances from juniors to veterans alike.
A special thank you to all event volunteers for enduring the conditions and helping to make the Race 1 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series the success it was. We look forward to seeing you at Elwood on Sunday 14th December!
Regards,
SuperSprint
