Gold Coast
Race Directors Report
The attention was momentarily taken off ‘The Spit’s’ white sand, rising swell and high rise hotels today as Queensland eyes focused firmly on the Gold Coast for the final leg of the NISSAN/BRW Corporate Triathlon National Series 2009.
It’s safe to say The Spit is pretty much to the ideal triathlon venue – it’s home to the very big (and lusciously green) Doug Jennings Park, is surrounded by the piercing blue Pacific, is almost always being kissed by that Southern Queensland sunshine and offers the ‘perfect’ cycle course. With so many appetizing features it’s with little surprise then that the 2009 events field limit was at capacity in record time – race officials now playing with the possibility of increasing numbers yet again in 2010 to satisfy Queensland’s active appetite!
Today’s racing didn’t let the venue down – NAB, Wellness Warriors, Shrek Fiona Donkey and Deloitte 1 lead the procession of fine performances, taking honours in the male, female, mixed & informal categories. And whilst they didn’t feature amongst the podium place getters, a special mention also goes to the very chic ‘Data3’ who, with a mixture of crowd support and good looks, took out the corporate colours in a very stylish lycra number.
A big thank you to the many competitors, volunteers, spectators & Gold Coast locals who helped the SuperSprint team produce another superb event – a definite highlight of what has been an outstanding series.
Good luck with your ‘off season’ training and we look forward to seeing you again in 2010!
