Charity Partner

JESUIT SOCIAL SERVICES

"I urge you to get the most out of this event by getting behind our charity partner, Jesuit Social Services. They've been in the business of supporting those on the margins of society for 35 years. SuperSprint had been operating for 25 years - we know to last that this long it takes commitment - Jesuit Social Services has been standing in solidarity with those in need since 1977.

If every team fundraises just $35 for Jesuit Social Services it would make a massive difference to their capacity to respond to new and emerging needs - it could fund a counsellor in their Support After Suicide program, a case-worker supporting young people released from prison, an outdoor adventure program for young women with mental health and substance use problems - and all it needs from you is $35. A small donation for a big impact. Sign up to fundraise for Jesuit Social Services now."

David Hansen, Director SuperSprint.

All entrants into the Nissan Corporate Triathlon National Series 2012 have the opportunity to raise funds by participating in the event.  You can raise funds either as a team or as an individual all online through Go Fundraise. Information about how to set up your teams fundraising page or how to sponsor a friend competing in the event, clink on the relevant state below.

About Jesuit Social Services

Since 1977, Jesuit Social Services has been working to build a just society where all people can live to their full potential by partnering with community to support those most in need and working to change policies, practices, ideas and values that perpetuate inequality, prejudice and exclusion.

Building relationships is at the heart of our work; in all we do we strive to be welcoming, discerning and courageous.

It is a pleasure to have Jesuit Social Services as our charity partner and I hope you will support them as we do here at SuperSprint. What they do is real and unsung - often in the most unpopular areas of social services, such as young people in the justice system and those with the most complex of needs. Have a look at their website – you will be surprised at all they do and who they work with. David Hansen, Director of SuperSprint.

What we do

We have developed expertise, and provide services, in the following focus areas working with people, families and communities to remove barriers to participation and inclusion:

• Justice and crime prevention – people involved with the justice system

"The young guys we work with have reasons not to trust - they've survived a lot in their life. It's important that when we go and see them in prison we sit and listen to them, to give them a chance to see that you'll keep coming back and you won't give up on them." - Meg

• Mental health and wellbeing – people with multiple and complex needs and those affected by suicide, trauma and complex bereavement

“The people we work with are supported to deal with and reflect upon the difficult life circumstances that may have brought them to our program. We assist them to recognise their own strengths and to make changes that will be valuable in their everyday life” - Fiona

• Settlement and community building – recently arrived immigrants and refugees and disadvantaged communities.

“Our work with new and emerging communities aims to enhance social interaction, build capacity and foster a sense of belonging. Through respectful partnerships, we draw on community strengths to create opportunities for overcoming entrenched economic and social disadvantage.” - Michael

Across all this activity we promote education, lifelong learning and capacity building with a focus on those people with barriers to sustainable education and employment.

“People we work with have lots of issues going on in their lives that make it hard for them. We’re looking for ways to bring education to them in ways that make it easy to access and manage” - Sue

Who we work with

Providing a range of services to those extremely disadvantaged within our community, we work at the ‘hard end’ where there is unmet need – helping young people in, and getting out of, youth justice facilities and correctional facilities, young people affected by mental illness and drug problems, families bereaved by suicide, refugees and newly arrived groups of people and those living in the public high rise estates in inner city Melbourne.

How we do it

Our approach is to strengthen and build respectful, constructive relationships for action – by partnering with people most in need and those who support them to address disadvantage; education – by providing access to education, life-long learning and development; and, advocacy – by building awareness of injustice and advocating for social change.

How you can help us build a just society
