Genovese Kinglake Ride 2011

Race Director's Report

Dear Participant

Congratulations to all finishers in the Genovese Kinglake Ride! What a day! There are always challenges in events but the day presented more than its share to everyone, starting with road works on Plenty Road causing delays then the big one, the weather! Well done to everyone for getting through all the elements including rain, fog, wind and hail! The only consolation was sunshine at the venue for a great deal of the afternoon!

As an organiser, it is really frustrating getting weather like that. You want everyone to have great conditions to enjoy the beautiful course and to be able to stay around at the finish and enjoy the entertainment and catch up with friends and family. After all the recent good weather and hearing next weekend is mid 20s it is annoying!

We had worked very hard to make this year’s event, the best one to date including providing the best race kit we have ever provided for any of our events! We hope you liked the new electronic Ride Guide and our more extensive use of Facebook and Twitter. I hope those who received the Video Splits thought it was great technology !

The one thing besides the weather that did stand out yesterday, was the camaraderie amongst riders and the friendly and appreciative attitude shown by riders both out on the course and at the finish! It was also great to see the joy on the faces of so many riders that did finish especially those doing their first event and what a top effort in those conditions! Well done again!

Thanks to Matty Lloyd for being our event ambassador and for being so involved in the event from riding to signing jerseys and event posters at the finish! A special thanks to all our staff, marshal groups including the CFA who worked hard to make sure everyone was well looked after!

Thank you once again for supporting the event and we hope to see you in next year’s 2XU Great Ocean & Otway Classic Ride on the 24 March.
