Race Director's Report
Dear Competitor,
Congratulations to all finishers! It was certainly challenging conditions for all competitors and for us as organisers. The heat plus the wind presents double the challenge and it was so pleasing to see competitors handle these so well. We had a few bike falls as well as a few competitors treated for dehydration.
As mentioned previously, we have been working for the last 12 months on establishing guidelines for cycling in winds. The world governing bodies of both cycling and triathlon do not have guidelines as to what is safe and not safe for cycling in winds (including wind directions). We are now closer to having these guidelines in place for our future races.
It was an exciting race in many categories with the elite race producing high level competition which will hopefully help the elite and ITU junior elites at the National level.
Well done to Leon Griffin and Elise Clayton for winning the elite categories and a special congratulations to all the first timers and Brooks competitors. Well done also to all of the teams in the Corporate Qualifier who have now got places into the Nissan/BRW Corporate Triathlon 2010.
We hope you enjoyed the event. The atmosphere and spectator support seems to continue to grow and certainly is an important part of the event. We always appreciate your feedback and if you have any suggestions for any improvements please complete the event survey we send out. We are always looking for new improvements and innovations. 'Project SS' was introduced at this event and is a video split system with footage for each competitor and involves amazing technology that hopefully will have worked so we will advise you during the week regarding any developments.
Thanks again for your support of the event and we hope to see you at Race 5 at Portarlington on the 14th February.
