Course Description
Competitors will have the option to compete over either the Olympic or Sprint distance at Race 3. Please note that competitors particpating in the Sprint event will not accrue series points.
Swim - Sprint distance 750m (1 lap), Olympic distance 1500m (1 laps)
Olympic distance swimmers follow an L shaped course starting at the north end of Sandringham Beach. Sprint distance competitors will complete a rectangular course also commencing a the north end of Sandringham beach and returning at the southern point (see map below). Returning to transition competitors will go up the ramp at the end of the beach and along Jetty Road to the driveway of The Australian Volunteers Coast Guard Head Quarters. Turning left up the driveway and past the building competitors will then pass through the carpark and enter the transition area on Trevor Barker Oval.
Cycle - Sprint distance 20km (1 lap), Olympic distance 40km (2 laps)
Competitors will exit the transition area (Trevor Barker Oval) onto Beach Road and proceed north to the turn around point at South Road in Brighton. Competitors will then head southbound past the venue along Beach Road to the second turn around point at Banksia Avenue in Beaumaris. From here competitors will return to the transition area along Beach Road with Olympic distance competitors completing a second lap of the course. Full road closure will be in place for the duration of the cycle leg.
Run - Sprint distance 5km (1 lap), Olympic distance 10km (2 laps)
The run course heads north out of the transition area. Competitors will run along the side of the road for the first 300m before accessing the bike path adjacent to Beach road. Competitors will continue north until they reach South Road where they will turn around and return to the venue along the foreshore footpath. Competitors in the Olympic distance event will complete 2 laps on the run course.
