Event Director's Report
Congratulations to all participants in the inaugural Degani Kinglake Ride!
Perfect Whittlesea Spring weather greeted almost 2,000 passionate cyclists as they tackled both 70km & 120km courses in some of Victoria’s most pristine riding country.
The day started emphatically with Mayor of Whittlesea, CR Elizabeth Nealy sending competitors off in style right on 7:30am.
After winding their way through the picturesque towns of Yan Yean, Arthurs Creek, Cottles Bridge and St Andrews, cyclists took on the daunting 7.2km Kinglake climb where their times could be tested against cycling superstar Will Walker.
After conquering the mountain, those taking part in the 70km ride turned off for home while the 120km cyclists powered on, passing through Castella, Glenburn, Flowerdale and Kinglake West en route back to Whittlesea for a well earned rest.
Well done to Max Waller who was the winner of the Nalini ride kit. Max will take home a Degani jersey and knicks valued at $259!
Congratulations also to Meg Danby who is the lucky winner of the of the Michael Forbes Foundation event day raffel. Meg has won a GIANT OCR1 road bike valued at $1,295! Close to $7,500 was raised for the 'Project Walk' - heartfelt thanks to all who supported this worthy cause.
Thank you to all participants, staff, sponsors and volunteers who helped deliver yet another first class SuperSprint event. We look forward to seeing you again in 2009.
Regards,
SuperSprint

View event ambassador Will Walker in action on this exciting course!
After establishing the Great Ocean & Otway Classic Ride in 2007 we had numerous requests from cyclists to conduct another classic ride. We then spent over 12 months looking at a number of locations around Victoria and came up with 2 – Kinglake and the Mornington Peninsula.
After liaising with the Mornington Peninsula Council we decided that the Kinglake location was best for our event as it provided a course with less traffic and more spectacular scenery. Kinglake is also the favored training location for many top cyclists including Pro Tour rider Will Walker. We looked at varied course options with input from Will Walker, traffic management consultants, local council and Vic Roads to create the best course for our event.
After developing the Great Ocean & Otway Classic Ride, an event with a spectacular course, we wanted to ensure we provided participants with another event that had a fantastic course, one which we believe many cyclists are yet to experience, even though it is so close to Melbourne.
