Degani Kinglake Ride 2009

Event Directors Report

Congratulations to all of the participants in the 2nd annual Degani Kinglake Ride. The record field of 3000 riders were welcomed by Councillor Pam Mcleod from the City of Whittlesea North Ward as they prepared for the ride. To mark the occasion, 70 CFA volunteers started from the front in both the 120km and 70km categories and led the fields through the quiet country towns of Yan Yean, Arthurs Creek, St.Andrews, Kinglake, Castella, Glenburn, Flowerdale, Kinglake West and of course the start and finishing point of Whittlesea.

The weather caused a challenge for all of the participants with rain falling on us for much of the morning. Despite the conditions early on, the weather improved and it was great to see many of our participants smile for our fuse photographer when arriving at the finish line.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported the CFA through their donations. These donations will greatly assist the CFA in building their Volunteer Leadership and Training program.  This program supports the development of volunteers who assisted those affected by the bushfires in the Kinglake region.
