Race 3 - Sandringham

Race Director's Report

The first race of the new year kicked off in stellar form with faultless conditions greeting all participants at Sandringham for Race 3 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series.  There was not a cloud in sight for the entire day and pristine water conditions set the tone for an ideal and picturesque racing day.

We congratulate all participants that attacked the course and gave it their all, especially those that attempted the Olympic distance event, a unique feature of Race 3 and the Series. Elite athletes Peter Kerr was defending his reigning champion tag from race 2 and he defended so successfully winning in classy fashion.  Kerr has begun the season in scintillating form winning again at Race 3. Kerr beat a consistent and VIS trained Brent Schuster that fought gallantly and took another honourable podium finish.  Kerr remains undefeated for the series.

It was also great to see the likes of Mitch Anderson, one of Australia's most successful ironman athlete participating as well as 3 time World triathlon champion Peter Robinson who participated in a teamed event. He will be back at Race 4 at Elwood, this time racing as an individual.

Madeleine Oldfield (female elite) won the female elite category beating Race 2 winner Elly Franks. Oldfield has been super-consistent with back-to-back podium finishes. In the Sprint distance event, Jarrod Lindsay-king and Sasha Bondarenko-Edwards fought it out spectacularly for the top podium finish with a final sprint down the straight. All onlookers witnessed a last-ditched effort from both competitors as the dived over the line. Lindsay-King took the honours.

Melbourne Tri-Club received the bonus points in the Tri-Club competition with their strong support for their athletes across all age-group categories. APS school Xavier, the powerhouse of the School’s Cup competition, has once again snapped up the bonus points extending their lead and further stamping their authority.

We at the SuperSprint team hope that enjoyed your event at Race 3 , Sandringham and hope to see you at Race 4 in Elwood!
