2XU Great Ocean & Otway Classic Ride 2010
Race Director's Report
Congratulations to the field of 3,500 that participated today in both the 60km and 145km distances. All participants began their ride at 7.30am or 8.30am for the 145km and 60km respectively. All participant's donned the official event jersey which seemed to unite the field from the get go.
With the aim of limiting the number of unregistered riders on the road we made the event jersey a compulsory riding item this season. Ultimately, to protect the safety of yourselves, our participants. We would like to thank everyone for their understanding in this decision and for wearing the official jersey today.
All riders headed into the first town of Moriac where many people stopped for refreshments. Not far along from here the 60km riders headed left down Forrest Rd towards the Great Ocean Rd which they rode along on their way back to the Torquay finish area.
The 145km riders continued along Cape Otway Road, travelling through Deans Marsh and Lorne, taking in the full sights of the Great Ocean road on the long stretch back into Torquay.
We would like to specially congratulate the 145km participant's for reaping the rewards of their training and completing the course in style. So much so, many of them even managed to pose for our official photographers in the finish chute.
We would also like to thank all participants who enjoyed a 'post-race debrief' at the Torquay Hotel following the ride. The slideshow presentation provided a good snapshot of today's ride but more photos can be seen by contacting our official photographers, Marathon-Photos, later in the week.
The winner of the Deans Marsh Festival raffel was Tameika Allen - congratulations! Tameika has wone a Team Degani bike valued at $2000 (dontated by SuperSprint). The Deans Marsh Festival is an annual fundraiser for the local community, with proceeds going towards their CFA, primary school, community cottage and hall at which $2000 was rasied.
Please take the time out to complete our participant survey that has been sent to your email. We continue to strive to make improvements from one event to the next and from one season to the next.
Thanks again for your participation!
Regards,
David Hansen
