2XU Falls Creek Triathlon & Brooks Trail Running Festival 2012



Everyone who finishes Falls is a WINNER! 

The inaugural 2XU Falls Creek Triathlon was certainly special and we are extremely excited about next year’s event. This sensational long course triathlon will once again be the host of the Victorian Long Course Championships, coupled with the trail running festival it is an absolute must for your Multi Sport Calendar. Entries at our inaugural event last year poured in at a very rapid pace as participants geared up for what was being classified as a gruelling but very rewarding event. A prize pool of $10,000 will be up for grabs this year once again as participants' battle their way through Australia’s toughest triathlon, over the 2km swim, 80km cycle, and 20km trail run.

Falls Creek is a testament to perfect racing conditions, with perfect summer weather for the event this year. Amongst a breathtaking scenic backdrop 2000 people made the journey to Falls Creek, with 850 participating in the events. With the limited field size, this is an event to act quickly on! Don't miss your opportunity to experience something truly special!

Falls Creek is Victoria’s largest and most picturesque alpine village, and sets the scene for a great weekend holiday with excellent accommodation and activities for not only triathletes, but for their friends and family. It has also been noted for altitude training camps for National and International competitors. The trail running festival is an open category only - all abilities are welcome (walkers, casual jogger, through to the serious runners!) Each of the runs uses the aqueduct trail that winds along the ridge offering magnificent views over the valley and the Falls Creek village. Don't miss your chance to experience this unique trail running experience!

The 2XU Falls Creek Long Course Triathlon would have to be one of the greatest triathlons I have competed in. The demanding terrain, combined with the challenge of altitude and spectacular scenery makes this a world class event in which athletes can have a true racing experience. If anyone is looking for a challenging race in one of the best locations in the world, then the 2XU Falls Creek Long Course is a must for the 2012 racing calendar. - Madeleine Oldfield

Swim 2km: in the immaculate Rocky Valley Lake
Cycle 80km: a 3 lap course with full road closure on the Bogong High Plains road.
Run 20km: a 2 lap run on beautiful Aqueduct running trail.

Weather
The great weather conditions we experienced for the inaugural Falls Creek event is very typical of the weather in the month of February according to both Falls Creek Management and Alpine Shire Council. This year was the first time in over ten years that Falls Creek had experienced high levels of rainfall and extreme weather conditions over the summer period.

New for 2012!

  • The run course will feature an upgrade of the Aqueduct Trail and the Aitkens track with a surface similar to the tan       
  • Saturday evening will be a party night following on from the presentations.      
  •  The race kits will feature a hooded windcheater and a framed plaque for finishers.      
  • Tri – Alliance will be hosting week-long Altitude camps at Falls Creek      
  • Madeleine Oldfield will be returning to defend her title along with Mitch Anderson and a strong contingent from New Zealand
  • World famous triathlon photographer Delly Carr will be attending to capture the magic photos of Falls’ spectacular scenery         
  • We have established a sister event relationship with the Titan Triathlon in Spain   
  • We have received an extended road closure and have applied to have Sunday as a contingency race day. We believe, this is a first in the sport     
  • There will be more activities over the weekend for friends and families.
  • Support events for 2012 are a 9.1km trail run and half marathon trail run.         
  • Gatorade Triathlon Series: The Melbourne Triathlon - The Victorian Olympic Distance Course Championship is now on the 5th February and is a perfect warm up event for Falls Creek triathletes
