Run for BCNA and Run for FREE
As part of SuperSprint's commitment to assist fundraising for the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), participants in the 2008 event are being offered the opportunity to RUN FOR FREE! That's right, simply raise above the nominated fundraising target of $200 and your entry fee will be refunded! Click Here to follow the journey of Sussan Women's Fun Run entrants as they raise funds for BCNA! You can too with Go Fundraise!BCNA's message:Thank you to everyone who has so far donated to and begun fundraising for Breast Cancer Network Australia. Each year in Australia 13,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer – that’s 36 every day. All money donated to Breast Cancer Network Australia is used to ensure that those women diagnosed with breast cancer, and their families, receive the very best treatment, care and support possible – no matter who they are or where they live. BCNA’s My Journey Kit is a free comprehensive resource created especially for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. It contains breast cancer information, support and resource options, a special diary for appointments and medical information. Recently BCNA received the below feedback about the My Journey Kit from a breast cancer survivor. “Thank you for providing this Kit. It will help greatly in organising myself and understanding what is happening. It allowed me to gain a sense of control, to be able to do something for myself.” This quote sums up the aim of the My Journey Kit and shows how something so simple can have a real impact on a woman going through treatment and living with breast cancer. The Sussan Fun Run is a great way to help support other women through their breast cancer journey. Why not get family and friends involved in fundraising and support each other both on the running track and when approaching sponsors. Please join the 2008 Sussan Women’s Fun Run and get involved with us by raising funds through GoFundraise (link below) |
Fernwood - Koula's Story Part 3
The Sussan Women’s Fun Run e-newsletters is following the progress of Koula, BDM from Fernwood Women’s Health Clubs, as she trains for the event. Koula’s Diary Part 3:Life is getting busier at this time of year and unfortunately I have been sick lately which has stopped me from training. At this stage I have managed to run up to 4km's and with six weeks left until race day I am feeling hopeful but a bit nervous to! I have realized that it's important to think positively about my training, as running is purely mind over matter. Fernwood’s advice:Aiming to increase the length of your running from 4km to 10km over the next six weeks is a challenging goal Koula, but you are on the right track as a positive attitude will help you to stay motivated and can make all the difference in your training. Aim to steadily increase your distance over the coming weeks and keep working towards race day one training session at a time. Visit www.fernwoodfitness.com.au for training plans, expert advice and tips. |

Active Feet Podiatry Tip
Race shoes versus training shoes.‘Racing’ shoes are not for everyone but can be for anyone. Essentially they are shoes which weigh a fraction of a regular training shoe (often up to 60%), and when your legs feel heavy, your feet are still light and feel fast. The weight reduction occurs primarily through the midsole of the shoe (between the mesh upper and the actual sole). Herein lies a potential problem. What you save in weight, you lose in terms of shock attenuation (cushioning) and stability. For those of you with a history of medial shin pain, anterior knee pain, metatarsalgia or ‘burning feet’ and the like, a weight saving may be outweighed by reduced performance due to pain, or worse, injury. Please contact any of us at one of the 3 active feet stores, or at the race weekend on site if you would like to discuss racing shoes for your feet. |
