Race 2 Wrap-Up
Brave competitors faced wild wintery conditions as Race 2 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series touched down at the always popular Elwood Reserve!
For the second race running (and for the first time in Gatorade Triathlon Series history) consecutive events have been affected by poor water quality.
With the inclement weather and the inclusion of seasoned heavy hitters Kristian McCartney, Adam Beckworth, Madeleine Oldfield and 2008 Beijing Olympian Erin Densham, racing was always going to be tough! Kristian McCartney led early in the male elite race, however the VIS’s Gareth Halverson held off the field in the final run to record an impressive win over New South Welshman Tim Porter. Oldfield, Lane and Densham fought it out in style in the female elite category, Erin Densham easily proving her status as a genuine Olympic gun, eventually taking line honors ahead of Renee Lane.
Many thanks to the athletes, spectators and volunteers who helped deliver another first class event, our last of the year.
Thank you to all participants for completing the post-event survey. The Race 2 survey winner was Georgie Camakaris - congratulations!
Happy & safe training!

Optional Race Cancellation Refund Levy

SuperSprint provides competitors with the option of paying a levy to secure a refund of their entry fee in the unlikely situation of event cancellation by SuperSprint. In the case of nearly all triathlon events around the world, if the event is cancelled on the race weekend, competitors are not entitled to a refund, as the event costs are similar regardless of whether the event goes ahead.
To opt for the levy, select "Race Cancellation Refund Levy" during the online entry process. You will then be prompted for your payment details.
Race cancellation refund levies for the Gatorade Triathlon Series and Brooks Fun Tri are available up to nine days before an event takes place, by 5pm on the Friday a week prior to the event. The cost is $10 for all Gatorade Triathlon events and $6 for the Brooks Fun Tri.
Please note that event cancellation is not because you cannot attend an event.
Geelong Ironman 70.3

Race with the world’s best at Ironman 70.3 Geelong, 8 February 2009
Once again, IMG will be presenting the Australian edition of the worldwide Ironman 70.3 Series in Geelong, on Sunday 8 February 2009.
Since its inception in 2006, the Ironman 70.3 Series has become the fastest growing triathlon series in the world. Earlier this year, the inaugural Geelong event attracted over 1,100 entrants and organisers are expecting another huge field for the second event, now just seven weeks away.
2008 men’s champion, Melbourne’s own Leon Griffin, will be back to defend his title. He’ll need to be in his best ever form if he’s to make it back to back wins, as he’ll be lining up alongside a stellar field led by current Ironman World Champion, Craig “Crowie” Alexander. This will be the first chance to see Crowie in action since he became only the fourth Australian ever to take the honours in Hawaii, the holy grail of Ironman racing.
Ironman 70.3 Geelong is a great chance to test yourself over the longer distance of a 1.9km swim, 90.1km ride and 21.1km run. You can enter as either a team or individual. Entries close on 30 January 2009 (subject to availability).
For further details and to enter, please visit www.ironmanoz703.com.

active feet Podiatry Tip
![]()
By Rick Osler, Podiatrist
When should I change my shoes over?
Shoes typically last 600-800km (6-10months average). Other contributing factors include non running wear time, the surfaces you train on, your weight, and of course your individual biomechanics.
Running is hard enough on the body, don't let your shoes contribute to it. Drop into active feet (Camberwell, Prahran, Heathmont), and we will assess your shoes and running biomechanics free of charge.
