30 JULY 2009

Hi  ,

Inspired by the Tour de France? Challenge yourself on Cadel Evans' favourite training ground at the 2nd annual Degani Kinglake Ride 2009! With a course that takes on 2 significant climbs, this is your chance to prove you're 'King of the Mountain'!

Less than 200 places remain, with only 6 weeks to go! So don't delay getting your entry in if you haven't already done so, and begin training for what is becoming one of Australia's most popular rides. Be one of these lucky last 200 to look the part on the day in the stylish official event jersey by Nalini!

Event e-newsletters (such as this one) are designed to communicate to both prospective and confirmed participants. If you have already entered the ride, now is a good time to familiarise yourself with course detail information provided within the below content, along with bike safety, and insurance and medical recommendations.

Bike Service, Safety and Ethics

Finish

Bike Service

Your bicycle must be roadworthy. It is important that you take responsibility to ensure all items are in good working order. SuperSprint recommend that your bike is serviced prior to the event and that you carry spare tubes, patch kit, tyre levers and a pump.

CBD Cycles are the official bike shop for the event.
You can get your bike serviced at CBD Cycles (03) 9639 2299 or email sales@cbdcycles.com.au

Bike Safety & Ethics

When you ride as a group, your conduct will directly affect the flow of the group on the road. Riding in a group such as this will have a mix of experienced riders, and those who have not fully developed their pack riding skills. It is important to recognise which category of rider you fit into, and act accordingly.

  • Strong riders need to protect the weaker – don’t expose them to the dangers on the road.
  • Weaker riders need to make the group aware they are struggling, uncomfortable with the current situation or unsure of how to handle the current conditions.

Below are a number of key points to be aware of throughout the ride:

  • keep your eyes forward
  • make the group "aware" of obstacles
  • do not overlap wheels
  • keep left unless overtaking
  • do not overtake on descents
  • use correct water bottles
  • learn the pack dynamics of turning

Ambulance & Insurance Cover

Medical

Ambulance Cover

SuperSprint contract Ambulance Victoria to provide paramedic and ambulance support on course - three will be in attendance. Mobile Medical support will also be on course, including Doctors, Sports Trainers, Paramedics and a Medical Support Vehicle. It is strongly recommended that participants have ambulance cover – ambulances will be in attendance at the event, however if you require transport by ambulance you will be charged for this service

Insurance

The Degani Kinglake Ride 2009 is covered by public liability insurance but this does not cover accidents caused by individuals or other riders. It is therefore strongly recommended that you have personal accident insurance (Cycling Australia, Bicycle Australia, Triathlon Australia) or medical cover along with ambulance cover, or a suitable level of health insurance.

Ride Rebuild Revive

CFA

All riders entering the 2009 Degani Kinglake Ride will have the opportunity to raise funds for CFA Volunteer Leadership and Training programs so that they can continue to assist those affected by the bushfires in the Kinglake region.

Details regarding the fundraising execution for participants will be confirmed in detail in personalised emails within the next month, as well as information posted on the website.

The CFA will also be volunteering their time at Refreshment Stations on course and the Finish area - so don't forget to carry some spare change in your pockets to pop in their tins!
